The Tornado Tube is an ingenious device that provides a demonstration of the scientific principles behind cyclones, whirlpools.

The clever tube connects two water-filled fizzy drinks bottles. As water flows from one to the other a spectacular vortex of swirling water is created. You can enhance the effect with the addition of a little food colouring or glitter

What you'll need

As well as your Tornado Tube you'll need

2 x empty 2-litre plastic drink bottles
Water

Simply fill one of the bottles about two-thirds full with water. Then screw the Tornado Tube securely onto the top of the bottle. Firmly screw the second empty bottle upside down onto the other end of the Tornado Tube. Turn the whole thing upside down and watch the vortex form as water travels from the top bottle to the bottom one.
